Understand the result
Use each UTM field for one clear job.
Start with the destination page, then add source, medium, and campaign values. Source identifies where the visit came from, medium describes the channel, and campaign groups the initiative. Term and content are optional and are most useful when you need to distinguish keywords or creative variants.

Analytics tools can treat values such as Email and email as separate entries. Decide on a naming convention before publishing links and reuse it across the team.
Do not tag ordinary internal navigation.
UTM parameters are useful for external campaign links. Adding them to ordinary links between pages on your own site can make acquisition reporting harder to interpret because it can overwrite the context of the original visit.
Test the final URL once before distribution.
Open the generated link in a private browser window and confirm the correct destination loads, existing referral or filter parameters remain intact, and any page fragment still works.
